Innovation and Business Skills Australia (IBSA), a national Industry Skills Council, has commenced a project for the museums and library/information services sector. The project comprises two components, formation of a Workforce Development Strategy(WDS) for the sector and a Scoping Review of the CUL04 Museum and Library/Information Services Training Package.
The WDS will explore and advise on responses to workforce development and planning issues prevalent in the sector; a strategy will be formed that then supports the sector to reliably and systematically skill its workforce. The Scoping Review will examine the current Training Package, endorsed in 2004, to ensure it meets current workplace skills requirements impacted by technological advances, sector convergence with IT programming and digitalisation of collections. Consultation for the two components of the project are expected to run concurrently through October and November 2010 to take advantage of back to back forums and to capitalise on stakeholder participation. IBSA’s project website will provide project updates, papers for comment, details of meetings and an online forum.
