Who and What is - Government Skills Australia

ASU Members whose skills and training relate to the use Vocational Education & Training (VET) resources , may not know but most of the work around their training resouces, industry (employer and employee) needs , a range of industry workforce projected requirments, and career path tools, that include national recognition and portability from employer to employer across their current and other industries. Are developoed by industry skills councils, which include in their structures equal union and employer represetation - thus the ASU has a say and speaks up for around 100,000 of our members needs across the many industry skills councils. With out this Union voice (for employees) only the employers would be heard and ASU members would miss out on the national training and skills agenda as well as the career paths and additional job security that 'skills, training, recognition and portability ' all bring .
One of these Industry Skills Councils the ASU works with is Government Skills Australia (GSA) .
The below advice has been prepared by GSA and gives an update on its work for ASU members and employees in the Local Government across all of Australia. Futher advice on the training packages and the work of GSA can be found at the GSA web site.
ASU Local Government Branches are entitled to be recognised at a State level, at the GSA LG Advisory Committee which meets 3 times per year. If you need more information on your State ASU GSA LG Advisory Committee Representative, contact your ASU Local Government State Branch www.asu.asn.au
