The ITF general secretary, David Cockroft, today sent the following message to the ITF’s affiliated unions in New Zealand:
“We have all been shocked at the severity and unexpectedness of yesterday’s earthquake. We are deeply saddened at the loss of life, and understand that there will be more suffering to come as the rescue operation continues and lives and homes are rebuilt.
We can be sure of one thing, and that is that New Zealand’s trade unions and their members will be fully involved in the rescue and rebuilding efforts. If there is anything we in the ITF can do to help, we will do so. Please let me know what assistance you need.”
