Negotiations with AEMO remain slow and despite weekly meetings the employer and the bargaining representatives remain a long way apart on some important issues.
The ASU, other industry unions and bargaining representatives are now working through a draft agreement that has been proposed by AEMO. Initially, AEMO proposed to incorporate clauses proposed by the bargaining representatives but has now reneged on that promise and is only negotiating around the clauses proposed by AEMO.
AEMO has taken a hard bargaining approach to negotiations, choosing not to engage in negotiations around coverage, not to provide written information on the proposed classification structure, not to provide retrospective pay rises, and not to include our proposed clauses in the drafting of the new EA. Yet, AEMO expects parties to reach a Heads of Agreement by the end of March 2011.
